2019 Nissan Altima AWD Near Lowell MA

The 2019 Nissan Altima has been completely redesigned and contains the latest technology that the Japanese automaker has to offer. As part of the redesign, it has a lower center of gravity for enhanced handling, and there's more interior space and upgraded active safety features. Most exciting of all, the Altima is available with all-wheel drive, making it the most fuel-efficient AWD sedan in its class. It stands apart from these rivals that don't even offer AWD: Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Kia Optima, and Hyundai Sonata. As if that isn't exciting enough, Nissan has also made this year's Altima eligible for its available variable compression turbocharged engine - the first turbo engine of its kind worldwide.

Trims and Standard Equipment

The '19 Altima comes in eight well-outfitted trim levels, which are S, SR, SV, SR VC-Turbo, SL, Platinum, Platinum VC-Turbo, and Edition ONE VC-Turbo. The standard drivetrain is a 188 hp four cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission; this combo is rated by the EPA to achieve 28 miles per gallon around town and 39 mpg on the highway. The variable compression turbo engine that comes standard on the VC-Turbo trims delivers 248 hp and gets an average of 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway. All of the non-turbo trims are available with AWD.

The base S trim's standard equipment includes a forward collision warning system, automatic emergency braking, an 8-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, an 8-way adjustable power driver's seat, and Intelligent Driver Alertness, which detects when the driver's eyes have been off the road and then generates an alert. The SR adds 19-inch wheels, paddle shifters, and a sport-tuned suspension. An options package available on the SR trim is the Premium Package, which includes a power sliding glass moonroof, heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, and heated front seats to keep you cozy. The SV trim comes loaded with standard safety features, with ProPilot Assist, lane tracking and intervention, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear automatic braking, a rear sonar system, and a rear cross-traffic alert system.

The SR VC-Turbo adds heated front seats, heated outside mirrors, and a power moonroof. The SL trim incorporates a Bose premium audio system, leather seating, and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger's seat; Nissan Connect powered by Sirius XM and a navigation system are all included. The Platinum gets an intelligent around-view monitor, 19" aluminum-alloy wheels, a driver's memory seat, and interior accent lighting. The Platinum trim also is available as the Platinum VC-Turbo, with the turbocharged engine.  The Edition One VC-Turbo is equipped with 19-inch dark gray aluminum-alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, external lighting, and signature Edition One carpeted floor mats. Individual accessories that can be added to the various trims include a rear spoiler, chrome body side moldings, external ground lighting, impact sensors, and splash guards.

Safety and Technology

The availability of Nissan's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is a big improvement to the safety of this affordable midsized sedan. The 2019 Altima is otherwise well equipped with both active and passive safety technology at all trim levels, and buyers who choose to add AWD will have the extra security that the system provides as it continuously adjusts the power ratio to all four wheels based on the actual road conditions to maintain optimal contact with the pavement, especially during challenging weather.

The Altima is built with Nissan's improved Zone Body construction (front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, steel side-door beams, and other reinforcements) and the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System. For helping to prevent collisions, Vehicle Dynamic Control, traction control, and a rear-view camera come standard on all trims. Other important safety features such as a backup camera, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking are standard on all trims as well.

The NissanConnect multimedia system features an 8-inch touchscreen and is compatible with Bluetooth, SiriusXM, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  Advanced Drive-Assist, with its own 5-inch color display, is standard to add hands-free text messaging and calls. Door-to-door navigation, active noise cancellation, and a Bose Premium audio system with nine speakers are offered on higher trim levels.
